“I was here long before you came,” said the Thin Wild Duke. His eyes were darker than before, and his pale skin shimmered in the morning sun. He broke a stick from the gentle tree and drew a cross on the ground between us. “And I’ll be here long after you’ve gone.”

“You’re born of the storm and the raging sea. Wave you’ve become, sky you will be.”

The Thin Wild Duke took one step closer, pushed the monster off my back, and wiped the tears from my cheek. “Remember,” he said, “You’re born of the storm and the raging sea. Wave you’ve become, sky you will be.”
